Obituary of Donald A. Powell
Donald A. Powell passed away Tuesday evening after a courageous battle against lung cancer. Don was one of the most respected attorneys in the Akron area legal community. Integrity of the legal profession was his goal and he led by example. His courtroom techniques are legendary in many of the Courts throughout the area.
Don graduated from Stow High School in 1958. He received his baccalaureate degrees from Bowling Green State University in 1962 and his law degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1965.
In 1975-1976, Don served as the mayor of Stow.
Don practiced law with Buckingham, Doolittle and Burroughs from 1965 to 1999. At Buckingham, he held several management positions and was one of the firm’s lead litigation attorneys. In 1999, Don left Buckingham to become one of the founding partners of Hanna, Campbell and Powell, LLP where he practiced law until his untimely death.
Don is preceded in death by his parents Donald Phillip and Betty Jayne Powell. He is survived by his loving children Don and Jamie; his former wife Denise and brothers, Jeff and Kevin.
Calling hours will be Monday from 10:00 am to 12 noon at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, Ohio and a memorial service will follow the calling hours.
