Obituary of D. Elaine Erickson
STOW - Dorice Elaine Erickson was born May 23, 1934 to Eloise and Charles Bernard Schneider of Lancaster, Ohio, and she passed away on August 13, 2014 at 80 years of age, of complications from a head injury which had occurred several years previously. Elaine had lived in Stow, Ohio with her husband and family since 1965. After being educated in the Lancaster, Ohio schools, she received a degree in Education from the Ohio State University in 1956, specializing in English and History. After raising a family, she was later employed in the library of Indian Trail Elementary School in Stow, Ohio for a number of years and was a docent at Hower House in Akron, as well as belonging to the Hower House Victorians.
Elaine was a lifelong musician, playing the flute, and later singing in church choirs at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Stow and in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, where she was a faithful member for many years. She loved music and antiques, she enjoyed traveling abroad, and she dearly loved her family. She was a kind person, and a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who will always be present in the hearts of her family and friends.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert K. Schneider of Circleville, Ohio; and aunts, Dorice Tidd of Lancaster, Ohio and Zella and Irma Schneider of Columbus. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. David E. Erickson of Stow; sons, Brock E. Erickson of Denver, Colorado and Dr. Bruce D. Erickson (Ellen Bauer) of White Hall, Arkansas; daughter, Kristin E. Powers (Andrew) of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; grandchildren, Nathan, Megan and Jonathan Bauer-Erickson; and sister-in-law, Alma Schneider of Circleville, Ohio and brother-in-law, Jerry Erickson (Betty) of Lincoln, Nebraska.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Heather Knoll Nursing Home of Tallmadge, Ohio for faithfully and carefully taking care of Elaine for almost four years, and to Summa Hospice of Akron.
A memorial service in Elaine’s honor will be held at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, Ohio at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 21, 2014. The service will be preceded by visitation at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Special Music Fund, 50 N. Prospect St., Akron, Ohio 44304. A private inurnment will be held by the family in the Stow Cemetery.
