Obituary of Walter Scott Smith
Walter Scott Smith, 96, passed away on August 9, 2014. Born in Bellaire, Ohio, Walter was a resident of Cuyahoga and Geauga counties before moving to Laurel Lake in Hudson in 1995. An avid sports fan, Walter served on the Ohio High School Athletic Board of Control and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Berkshire Sports Hall of Fame. Walter served as superintendent of Chardon Local Schools and later, as Geauga County superintendent until his retirement in 1979.
Preceded in death by his wife Laura, after 67 years of marriage, Walter is survived by his daughter, Lenore (Thomas) Cranston of Wadsworth; son, Walter (Caryl) Smith of Lubbock, Texas: grandchildren, Russell (Nina) Smith of Weston, Conn. and Debbie (Sean) Fitch of Walnut Creek, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Lilith, Aidan, Julian and Margaret.
Chaplain Mary Tatman will conduct a memorial service Monday, August 18, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the Community Room at Laurel Lake, 200 Laurel Lake Drive, Hudson, OH 44236. Private inurnment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
