Obituary of Eugenia B. Sexton
STOW - Eugenia B. Sexton died on June 23, 2014. She was 86 years young. Her death was peaceful following a brief illness. She was surrounded by close family and friends.
Gene was born on October 2, 1927 in Bronxville, NY. She is the daughter of Clarence M. and Helen S. Brobst. She was predeceased by her husband, Brian W. Sexton; her only son, Robert H. Rees; and her sister, Polly D. Zink. Surviving are her daughters, Susan R. Van Asdale (Gary) and Elizabeth P. Rees. Also surviving is her sister, Majida Connie Gibson and her brother George P. Kingston. Eugenia has five grandchildren, James F. Van Asdale, Joel D. Van Asdale, Evelyn J. McMahon, Sarah E. Jones and Robert E. Jones.
Education was an important aspect of her life. Her education continued through the Masters level. She spent most of her career working as a teacher. She remained very active after her retirement. She was a member of the Natatorium and the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center. She participated in a twelve step program and was a hospice volunteer. Helping others and being of service was an integral part of her life. She stayed involved with many social avenues and enjoyed playing bridge and attending the theater. She was a Cheraga (minister) in the Sufi Order. She participated with various spiritual groups throughout her life.
Gene enjoyed painting and gardening. She had a great love for nature and flowers. She will be remembered for her loving and caring ways.
In lieu of flowers, Eugenia requested donations to the Sufi Order or the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center. Teaching is currently a focal point for both the national and local Sufi communities. Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Thursday 5 to 8 PM, where service will be held Friday 11:00 AM.
