Obituary of Donald J. Evans

STOW - It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Donald J. Evans, 84, of Stow, Ohio, who passed on June 1. Donald or “Don,” son of the late Howell and Hilda Evans of Massillon, Ohio, is survived by his lovely wife of 60 years, Sally (Fanton) Evans, his children David, James (Stefanie) and Julie Evans and six grandchildren. Don served his country in the U.S. Army, Co. F, 508th Airborne Infantry during the Korean War. A 1955 graduate of Bowling Green State University, Don worked at Republic /LTV Steel for his entire career, retiring as Director of Employee Benefit Planning in 1994 after 37 years with the steelmaker. Don was an avid golfer. From the time he was old enough to swing a club, he could be found on the golf course almost every weekend, usually with the same group of enthusiastic golf buddies. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Don will be greatly missed.  The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Rd. (Route 91) in Stow. Private interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army or Hattie Larlham Foundation, 9772 Diagonal Rd., Mantua, OH 44255-9953.
