Obituary of James R. Castner

STOW- The loved James R. “Jimmy” Castner went home to the Lord on May 17, 2014. He was born in Akron on November 2, 1950 to the late Francis Castner and Mary Ellen Pophal. Survived by his wife, Mella with whom he shared a joyous marriage of 30 years, he is also survived by “the lights of his life”, daughter Tracy Castner; son Cory (Sarah) DeVenture; grandchildren Dylan “DJ” Castner, his “peaches” Eva DeVenture and his “scooter” Enzo DeVenture; stepfather Al Pophal of Florida; sisters Tina (Jim) Starn; brothers Bill and George Castner, Ricky, Mickey (Janice), and Rob (Tawni) Pophal along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunt, uncle and his “crusin buddy” cousin Paul. He is preceded in death by sister Barbara and brother Michael Pophal. A Ford Walton Hills Stamping Plant millwright for 23 years, he was a member of UAW Local 420, Mens Auxiliary of VFW Post 3383 and winner of many classic car awards he so enjoyed with his friends at Pro Car Associates. Jimmy leaves behind many family and good friends who will miss his loving and caring nature. The family extends its heartfelt appreciation to those wishing to send flowers. Instead, Jim would want memorials made to Akron Rotary Camp where his beloved wife helps others or Summa Foundation Summa Screens where his dearly loved daughter faces her journey without her “rock” dad.     Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Monday 5 to 8 PM, where funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 AM. Entombent Holy Cross Cemetery.
