Obituary of Rose Mary Green
SILVER LAKE – Rose Mary Green passed away on March 28th, 2014 at the age of 86.
Born in Cleveland , OH on June 22, 1927, Rose Mary was the daughter of Daniel and Mary Snider.
She attended Miami University where she earned her accounting degree. During her college years, she met Carl. They were married on September 22, 1949 and settled in St. Mary’s, Ohio .
During Carl’s service with Goodyear, Rose Mary and her growing family moved to Cuyahoga Falls , Ohio , where their sixth child was born. Goodyear moved the family to Jackson , Michigan and overseas to Wolverhampton , England . The family moved to the Village of Silver Lake nearly 43 years ago.
In addition to her talents as a gardener, cook, nurturer and referee, Rose Mary was adept at stretching resources and wasted nothing. She knitted and sewed blankets, clothes and coats, altering them for the next child. She also had a gift for rescuing unwanted dogs and cats. As the children moved out, Rose Mary and Carl became postcard dealers/collectors, traveling the country to attend postcard shows. They made lifelong friendships with many who share their love of antique postcards, especially their friends in the Western Reserve Post Card Society. Rose Mary enjoyed her early years as a member of St. Joseph ’s Bible Study Club, and later became an active member of Holy Family Parish and the Silver Lake Garden Club. Rose Mary also enjoyed years of pleasure with her special friends in the Wednesday Supper Club.
Preceded in death by her husband Carl in 2009, she is survived by her six children: Dr. Monica Howe (Dr. Raymond), Robert Green (Sara), James Green (Rita), Jean Green (Ben), Nancy Henry (Robert) and Deacon John Green (Carolyn); her ten grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and her sister Martha Sagel.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice of Summa and greatly appreciate her wonderful aides from Anna’s Home Health Care: Beverly, Millie, Barb and Sonia.
Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm, where a wake service will be held at 7:30 pm Tuesday. Mass of the Christian Burial Wednesday 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if donations are made in Rose Mary’s name to Pawsibilities Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7996 Darrow Rd , Twinsburg , OH 44087 .
