Obituary of Peter L. Erwin
HUDSON - Peter Lawrence Erwin, 75, died the morning of February 4, 2014. He suffered from progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).
He was born in New York City on November 8, 1938, and grew up in Freeport, NY. He attended Dartmouth College where he played football and lacrosse and graduated in 1960 with a degree in Psychology. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a military policeman. In 1961 he married Gail Avy; they had three children. In 1974 they moved from Rockville, MD to Hudson, OH.
During his career, Peter worked in sales for several furniture companies. He ran 13 marathons and numerous shorter races, was active in Christ Church Episcopal, and for many years managed the Salvation Army kettle drive in Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Sr. and Julia; wife Gail; sister-in-law Karen Avy Soles; brother-in-law Pat Crowley; and granddaughter Kelly Rinaldi. He is survived by his brother Hugh Jr. (Elizabeth); sister, Jane; sister-in-law Lynda (William) Leitner; daughters Julie (David) Erwin Rinaldi and Bonnie (Jon) Tosino; son Geoffrey (Amy); and 9 grandchildren: Justin and Colin Rinaldi; Nicole, Christopher, Jessica, and Julia Tosino; and William, Margaret, and Elizabeth Erwin.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Episcopal, in Hudson, on March 29 at 11:00 a.m. Donations may be sent to the Foundation for PSP, at www.psp.org.
