Obituary of Ellen Linnea Weidner

Ellen Linnea Weidner (Nelson) quietly passed away Monday morning, January 27th, 2014 in the Saint Luke Lutheran Community. Born November 22nd, 1918 in Akron, Ohio Ellen became a lifelong resident of the Akron area. Upon graduation from Akron Central High School she began working for Goodyear Tire and other Akron concerns until she fell in love with and married Kenneth W. Weidner, who had just returned to Akron from the Navy as an Airship crewman. He rejoined Goodyear where he was to become one of the first technicians in Aerophysics which led to his retiring after 35 years of service in 1977. Happy as a mother and wife, the family settled in Green Township to raise a family of three children. Aside from her husband and children, her greatest achievements and joy came from her deep faith, a fundamental love of reading and literature for which her children are eternally grateful. In addition she passed on her love of horticulture and lively conversation. After her husband’s retirement they became avid campers and hit the road touring the United States in their recreational vehicle. After life on the road Ellen and Ken settled in to the Danbury of North Canton where they enjoyed the fellowship of all. She was a member of The Order of Eastern Star, Portage Lakes and had been deeply involved growing up in the Swedish community surrounding Bethany Lutheran Church in Akron. Along with her mother-in-law, Fairy Weidner, she was an active member of the Akron Women’s Christian Temperance Union.   She is survived by her children Constance Carr (Ron) of Johnstown, son Joseph (Janet) of Columbus, and son William (Beth) of Louisville, grandchildren Nancy Baur (Bryan), Paul Carr (Vanessa), Ivy Gallentine (Ryan), Whitney Weidner, and Great grandson, Benjamin Joseph Gallentine.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Weidner, sister, Signe Weidner (Nelson) of Canal Fulton and brother Clarence Nelson of Cuyahoga Falls, her parents Selma (Benson) and Gottfried Nelson of Akron.    Calling hours will be at 10 am Friday, January 31th at Bethany Lutheran Church with a Service at 11 am. Donations in her honor may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church-ELCA 833 Carroll St, Akron, OH 44305-2407
