Obituary of Winnona Mackey
On 10/25/13, in Columbus Oh, Winnona (Nona) Mackey died peacefully surrounded by family after a bout of pneumonia at age 85. Nona was born 10/18/1928 in Pancake PA. and moved to the Akron area when she was in high school . She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her parents, Ruth and Fred Blake, her granddaughter Betsy Walter, and several siblings.
Nona was a member of Holy Family Parish for 50yrs. She worked at the original Acme Click and retired in 1986. She was an avid bowler at Stow Kent Lanes and was a medal winner in the Senior Olympics and the Grandmothers Tournaments. She loved playing cards and “Deal the cards” always brought a smile to her face. But her life’s commitment was truly her family, loving, serving and sharing fun celebrations full of music with them. She was dearly loved by them and will be honored by the legacy she left behind of showing her love of God though her love and care for others.
She is survived by Children: Ruth Ann Walter (Dave), Powell, OH, Rita Horning (Joseph), Stow, OH, John Mackey (Patricia) Castle Rock, CO, Renee Franck (Phil), Westerville, OH. She was able to convey to all of her 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren that they were cherished by her. Her surviving siblings are Robert Blake (Demi) Worchester, Mass, William Blake (Ruth) Akron, OH, Ernestine Olson, Canton, OH. She had many special nieces and nephews including Debbie Lutz (Don). Important in her life was her life-long friend, Yvonne Tomayko.
Friends are invited to the Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Wednesday 11:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church.
