Pauline Lewis, 86 years, reposed June 21, 2013
Pauline Lewis, who resided in Amherst, Ohio for many years but most recently in Streetsboro, Ohio, grew up in Morgantown, West Virginia. She moved to Amherst, Ohio shortly after marrying Ralph S. Lewis, when his service with the 254th Field Artillery Battalion in campaigns in France, Belgium and Germany ended. They became acquainted while he served. During the early years of their marriage, Ralph operated his own truck driving timber loads in the mountains near Morgantown. They moved to Ohio in the early 1950’s and built their own home in Amherst with the help of Pauline’s father and their brothers. Pauline and Ralph lived in this home throughout their 57 year marriage. Ralph reposed in April 2004.
Pauline’s parents, Charles and Anna Loya (nee Kabaci), both immigrated to the United States from what is now western Ukraine. Pauline’s brothers and sisters all deceased included Charles, Helen, Ann, John, Mary, George, Irene, and James. Brother Joseph and Pauline’s first sister named Mary died in early childhood. The family grew up with Christ and the Church as the focus of their lives. Pauline was born in Morgantown. West Virginia on August 10, 1926.
Pauline raised her sons in Amherst, Ohio and, with her husband Ralph, both were active members of Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Lorain, Ohio. She most recently attended St. Herman of Alaska Orthodox Church in Hudson, Ohio. And, Pauline grew up in St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Westover, West Virginia. The family is grateful for the prayers, support, and concerns that these church communities and friends have offered through the years and the care provided by the staff of the Gardens of Western Reserve. All have provided strength and peace.
