Obituary of Jane Wheeler Caniglia

Jane Wheeler Caniglia passed away June 15, 2013. She was born November 11, 1920 to Stanley and Hattie Wheeler in the same house in Darrowville that she lived in all of her life. Jane was a 1938 graduate of Hudson High School. She married Arthur in 1941 and belonged to St. Mary's church since then. She worked with her mother and father at Wheelers Market starting in 1936, then at Wheelers Garden Center with son Stanley and wife Faith, and then The Side Door Florist with daughters Alice and Harriet. Mom loved the flower shop and all the friends they met over the 41 years of floral business. One reason she was so successful was her ability to treat customers as good friends. Being an only child, Mom's friendships were so important to her. Some of her friends she has had for her entire life.Mom loved "adventure" from the time she was a teenager riding in a bi-plane at the Mid-City Airport in Darrowville. Later she was fortunate to travel with Dad on many cruises and then with her special group of school friends. She used to say "Travel and see the world but never forget where you came from." One of her favorite trips was taking the QE2 to England and flying home on the Concorde. Jane was able to make this trip twice; once with Harriet and again with Alice. Another special memory was when she and Dad took their grandsons Christopher & Joe to Disneyland and also on a cruise. How they loved their grandsons! How wonderful it was to see them grow up and have beautiful families of their own. Mom loved her family, her friends, and her faith. She was a good mother who taught us the value of hard work, helping others, how to be a loyal and charitable friend and raising us to have strong faith. We will miss her happy smile, generous spirit, inner strength, unconditional love, and her ability to always look at the brighter side. Jane was preceded in death by husband Arthur in 1988 and is survived by daughter Alice of Hudson, son Stanley & daughter-in-law Faith of Hudson, daughter & son-in-law Harriet & Bruce Smith of Silver Lake, grandsons Christopher & wife Amy Caniglia of Canal Fulton, Joe & wife Aimee Caniglia of Hudson, and great grandchildren Rachel, Sarah, Laura, Eddie, Braden, Michael, Katie and Carrie.
