Obituary of Homer Montgomery
SILVER LAKE – Homer Montgomery, 88, passed away June 13, 2013.
Born in Akron, he was a lifetime area resident and a member of the Akron Baptist Temple where he served as an Usher and was a Trustee from 1948 to 1973. Homer retired from Equifax in 1990 with 40 years service and was a US Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, a member of Coventry-Akron Lodge 83 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, and the American Legion.
His greatest pleasure was family gatherings and he never tired of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed travel to many states including Hawaii, Europe and Communist Russia in the early 70’s.
Preceded in death by his parents, Homer U. and Annabelle Montgomery and, most recently, his brother Jim in May, 2013, he is survived by his wife, Jean, with whom he would have celebrated 70 years of marriage in November; daughters, Toby (Tim) Zuschin of Kent and Lynda (Joel) Reed of Green; grandchildren, David (Andrea) Zuschin, Michael (Ann Marie) Zuschin, Joel (Becky) Reed; great-grandchildren, Max, Lily, Sophia, Jeffrey, Corinne and Allison; sisters, Marie (Ralph) O’Neil of Munroe Falls and Marjorie (Walt) Nicholson OF Silver Lake; brother, William of Farmville, VA; sister-in-law, Diane Montgomery of Stow and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 4-7 PM Monday at Redmon Funeral Home where Rev. John Henniger will conduct services 1 PM Tuesday. Burial Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Homer's video tribute may be seen here.
