Obituary of Herman J. Rottinghaus
STOW - Herman J. Rottinghaus, 69, passed away peacefully December 12, 2014.
Born in Cincinnati, Herman had been a resident of Stow for 40 years. Known affectionately by his family as the "Grillmaster", he was a world traveler who loved golfing with his buddies and spoiling his grandchildren, who referred to him as 'Pop-Pop'. Herman has been an incredible blessing to all his family and friends and he will be dearly missed.
Herman proudly attended St. Xavier Jesuit High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Herman was a graduate of St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, where he continued to excel as a hard-throwing pitcher in baseball. He spent the majority of his working years traveling internationally in Marketing and Sales with Evenflo Corporation. Herman ended his working career with Hygienic Corporation locally in Akron, Ohio. He was dedicated to supporting Jesuit education throughout his life beyond his time at St. Xavier. All four of Herman's sons are graduates of Walsh Jesuit High School, where Herman spent many years supporting the mission of the school and served as President of the Booster Club on multiple occasions. His pride in his working career was trumped only by that of his family, children and grandchildren. Herman will be remembered most by his family and friends as a straight-forward man of conviction that cherished relationships, with an intense belief in benevolence and service.
Preceded in death by his father Herman Francis Rottinghaus, Herman is survived by his wife, Stephanie (Gall), of 45 years; sons Jeffrey (Jeanne), David (Mary Margaret), Kevin (Amy), Brian (Bridget); grandchildren Molly, Ryan, Ella, Chloe, Joseph, Max, John, Henry, Mac, Georgia, Jane, Mitchell; mother, Vera Schemer Rottinghaus; sister Mary Ann Rapien (Frank); and brothers Thomas (Diane) and Timothy (Lee).
