Obituary of Lanny Glenn
Lanny Glenn died August 13, 2012 of complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Akron in 1935, he attended Garfield High School and the University of Akron before joining the Armed Forces.
Lanny had a lifelong love of the Performing Arts. For him, there was truly; "No business like Show Business." He was the original Stage Manager at the EJ Thomas Performing Arts Hall, and a proud member of IATSE local #48 for 54 years. He also had the opportunity to travel the world with various productions.
Christmas was his favorite time of year, as his interest in stage craft and creativity carried over into his personal life. He earned the nickname "Lanny Claus" with his white beard and good cheer, and would devise elaborate decorations for both his home, downtown Akron store windows, and the Akron Zoo.
He will be remembered by family and friends for his generosity, positive attitude, zest for life, and belief that "The show must go on!"
He is survived by wife Phyllis; sons Michael, Douglas, and John; daughter Jillian; Son-in-law Jason and grandchildren Monica, Mack, and Jaclynn.
Lanny Glenn was a member of The Cremation Society of Ohio. Pastor Michael Swab will conduct a memorial service at Redmon Funeral Home in Stow on September 7 at 6 PM. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 PM until service time, and then immediately following the service until 7 PM. A Celebration Reception will then follow.
