Obituary of William Edward Dowey

 Our loving husband, good and kind father, and caring Pop-pop, William Edward Dowey, age 87, passed away August 15, 2012. He was a devoted servant of God and was faithful to his words, “God is Love”.  Born in Watkins, Pa, he resided in Cuyahoga Falls for the past 43 years, moving there from Akron. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of First Christian Church of Stow where he was a past Trustee and sang in the church choir. He worked for Mohawk Rubber Company for 32 years, was a part-time Barber, and retired from Kent State University. His hobbies included woodworking, camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, and music, and he proudly built our family home.  Preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lillian Dowey, brother Jack Dowey, sister Phyllis Dilks, and grandsons Robert D. Dowey and David A. and Robert J. Dowey. The life he led here will continue to be honored by his wife of over 60 years, Elizabeth; children Jim (Carol) Dowey, Denise (Bill) Malson, Ted (Janet) Dowey, Rich (Robin) Dowey, Nadine (Mark) Chapman, and Bill (Cora) Dowey; grandchildren Sarah (Dan) Dowey, Nathan (Heather) Dowey, Aimee (Brett) Hoke, Greg (Jessica) Malson, Steve (Kelly) Malson, Brad (Tina) Dowey, Melissa (Patrick) Markulis, Pam Dowey, Karen (David) Mathena, Jennifer Chapman, Andrew (Jill) Dowey, Chelsea (Brian) Rowe, and Jarrett Dowey; great-grandchildren Alexander Dowey, Kyle, Kendra and Carter Dowey, and William, Samuel, and Kaitlyn Mathena; in-laws Ruthie, Alice, and Jack and Claire Lamont; special neighbors and close friends Mary, Rosie, Vic, and Evelyn; and many nieces and nephews.  In celebration of Bill’s life, visitation hours will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with the Memorial Service beginning at 3:00 at First Christian Church of Stow, 3493 Darrow Road, Stow, Ohio. The burial will take place Monday, August 20, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Northlawn Memorial Gardens, 4724 State Road, Peninsula. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Stow.
