Obituary of Lyle A. Wood
Lyle A. Wood, 89, passed away August 9, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his daughter-in-law, Lynne; sister Lois and his brother-in-law, Alvin. He is survived by his wife Ruth; brother Dale and sister-in-law Margaret. He was a beloved husband of Ruth for almost 70 years. He loved his two sons Gary (Jean) and Keith. He was the best grandfather to Jenny (Mark), Steven (Michele), Julie (Steve) and Seth (Shawnacee). He enjoyed his 13 great-grandchildren.
During WWII, he served his country with the 101st Airborne; his ship was sunk on D-Day. He was rescued by another ship and went on to fight battles in France, Normandy, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He fought in Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne. He was wounded in Belgium and received the Purple Heart. He also received the Bronze Star during the war.
He worked for Western Electric Company for 38 years. He enjoyed his retirement wintering in Brownsville, TX, where he taught pattern dancing. Always a tinkerer, he worked around the house fixing things; his hands were busy to the end. His goal was to be retired for as long as he worked-he almost made it.
