Born in Akron, Mary was a graduate of Kenmore High School. She married and raised six children. Then went on to pursue her dream of earning three degrees from the University of Akron and Malone College. Mary worked her way up from a temporary position to Human Resources Director of Western Reserve Telephone Company. Throughout her entire life she served as a volunteer CCD teacher, Girl Scout Leader, LifeBanc Speaker, answered calls for the Suicide Prevention (Support) Hotline, volunteered at the Palliative Care Unit of Akron City Hospital and Holy Family Catholic Church.
Once retired, Mary fulfilled her dreams of travel, and enjoying her grandchildren, which she was so proud of, and adored with all of her heart. Mom loved the beach, swimming ,walking the shore looking for her treasured sea shells, and to her each sunset was spectacular. She was proud of her Irish heritage and loved family gatherings, vibrant colors, and fireworks - we will miss her exclaiming oohs and aahs after each one. She thoroughly enjoyed time spent with her Kenmore Gals and her Kelley’s Island Bunch.
A Wish for a Friend
Wishing you a rainbow, For sunlight after showers, Miles and miles of Irish smiles, For golden happy hours, Shamrocks at your doorway, For luck and laughter too, And a host of friends that never end, Each day your whole life through.
“Her Irish eyes are a smilin’!” Until we meet again Mom.
