Obituary of Gino Serofino Altieri

Gino Serofino Altieri, 10, went to heaven to dance with Jesus and the Angels on June 24, 2012. Born on August 10th, 2001 in Cuyahoga Falls, Gino was welcomed into this world and filled so many hearts with love. He was the first child, first grandchild, and first nephew. He had attended Fishcreek and Lakeview Schools in Stow. He was a vibrant, social, and fun-loving young man who brought joy to many, many people. His passions included video games, movies, hanging out with family and friends. His enormous amount of energy was well used while playing basketball, soccer, baseball, and golf. On Sept 14th, 2010 his diagnosis of Stage 4 Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma drastically changed his life. After a 54-week-treatment plan of chemotherapy & radiation, Gino defeated his tumor named "Grievous"; Star Wars villain; and in Nov. 2011, he was declared cancer free. His freedom was short lived and followed by an unfortunate relapse in Jan 2012; this diagnosis more devastating. The disease had spread to his brain. Through his amazing support system he and his family fought every inch of the way. Thank you to everyone especially Akron Childrens Oncology Floor headed by his favored and loved Dr. Jeffrey Hord. He is survived by his parents Domenic and Gina; sister Adelina; grandparents Eduardo and Maria Altieri and Don and Gail Laney; plus numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Friends are invited for visitation to St. Mary Catholic Church, 304 N. Main St., Hudson, 44236 on Wednesday from 3 to 9 PM, where Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Thursday 10:30 AM.  Accessorize in red for Gino, his favorite color!  Burial St. Mary’s Cemetery.  PLEASE MEET AND FORM PROCESSION AT THE CHURCH.  IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, please make memorials at www.curesearchwalk.org/northeastohio/jedigino or to Akron Children’s Hospital, Oncology Dept., One Perkins Square, Akron 44308.
