Obituary of Sterling Barlow
HUDSON - Sterling R. Barlow, age 96, passed away May 3, 2012. He was born in Akron in 1915 to parents Luther and Belva (King) Barlow. Preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Wanda (Hill) Barlow, he is survived by his sister, JoAnn (Doyle) Pope, and nephews Durand (Nancy) Pope, and Bryan, (Marilyn Pope).
Sterling served in the Army during World War II, was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge and he retired from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a life member of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States. He was also for many years employed in the radio industry and as a commercial insurance appraiser.
Sterling was a 32nd degree Mason; a proud member of Rotary for over 60 years; and, with his wife, a member of the United Federation of Doll Clubs. He also had a life-long love of music, and was an accomplished pianist and singer.
A memorial service will be held in the Serenity Chapel at Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson, Thursday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Laurel Lake.
