Obituary of Miles Scheaffer
Miles Scheaffer, resident of Bath, OH, 53, went home to be with the Lord March 6, 2012 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Miles was born in El Paso, TX on January 28, 1959 and was raised in Kansas City, KS. Miles moved to Akron at the age of 14 and graduated from Firestone High School in 1977. He graduated from The University of Akron in 1983 with a B.S. in Chemistry and worked as a chemist with ICN. Miles then earned his M.B.A. from Kent State University in 1992 and worked as the office manager for his wifeʼs medical practice. He also was the Executive Director of the Summit County Medical Society from 2001 to 2004. After moving to Henderson, KY in 2004, Miles worked as a realtor with FC Tucker MG of Evansville, IN. His most important life work, however, was raising his two daughters. Miles had a passion for working with children and young adults, and he enjoyed being involved with his daughtersʼ school activities. Miles volunteered as a youth soccer coach for over 25 years, and was the Womenʼs Soccer Coach at Woodridge High School from 1999 to 2001, where he was honored as Portage County League Coach of the Year. He also worked as a substitute teacher with Revere Local Schools, Woodridge Local Schools,and Twinsburg City Schools.
Miles had strong faith in Jesus Christ and his life and actions were a testimony to his faith. He served as a deacon at Northampton Baptist Church, and was also involved in The Chapel and Grace Church on Ghent Road. He used his passion for working with students for the Lord as a youth group leader and loved taking students to Camp Patmos on Kelleyʼs Island.
Miles is preceded in death by his grandparents Ivan and Florine Whipple. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Marjorie DeMund; daughters Jennifer and Tori Scheaffer; his mother and stepfather, Joyce and Martin Ridgeway; his father Elvin; his brothers Darren (Tracy), Eric (Amy), and Steve; his aunt Mary Jane Campbell (Wayne Sr.); cousins Wayne Campbell Jr. (Dawn), Tim Campbell (Josie), and Tom Campbell (Judy); his beloved nieces and nephews, and his close friends Peter Allcorn and Rance Bradley.
Miles has inspired many with his faith and courage through his battle with illness. His family would like to thank all those who helped during this trying time, particularly Dr. Sandra Hazra, Dr. Kamel Muakkassa, Dr. William Demas, and all the nurses and staff at City Hospital and Parkview Center.
Friends may call Thursday 5 to 8 PM at Redmon Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at Northampton Bible Church, Friday 10 AM, officiated by Pastor John DeMund. Private interment at Mooreʼs Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Relay For Life of Revere team “Miles 4 Miles” or the Miles Scheaffer Camp Patmos Memorial at any Key Bank.
