Obituary of John B. Schirra
John B. Schirra, 90, of Stow, passed away on February 27, 2012. He was born on June 6, 1921 in Bellwood, PA, son of the late Peter and Rose (Hoffman) Schirra. He was raised in Munhall, PA, and moved to Akron in the 1940’s to work for Goodyear. John retired from Goodyear Aerospace after 25 years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Stow, enjoyed gardening and fishing, as well as spending time with his family. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and was a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Fr. Peter Schirra, Frank and Mildred Schirra, and Martha Hoch. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Mary (Henry); daughter, Judy (John) O’Neil; sons, John (Sue) Schirra, Joe Schirra, Jeff (Donna) Schirra, Jim (Kathy) Schirra, and Jerry (Penny) Schirra; 17 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to the Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Friday 6 – 8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, 10 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3450 Sycamore Drive, Stow. Inurnment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Mary and Joseph Home, 4291 Richmond Road, Cleveland, Ohio 44122.
