Obituary of Richard J. Cummings

STOW- Richard J. “Dick” Cummings, 78, died Tuesday morning after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.  He was born February 26, 1933, raised in Irwin, PA, and graduated from Irwin High School in 1951.  Dick served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.  On July 7, 1956, Dick married Janet Ruth Kleckner.  In September 1956 they relocated to Stow, OH.  Dick worked for Ford Motor Company at the Walton Hills Plant for 34 years, retiring in 1990.  The couple spent 19 winters at the Pioneer RV Park in Phoenix, AZ. Dick was very active prior to his illness.  He was a champion horseshoe pitcher, loved golf, shooting pool, and playing cards. He served as a past president of the Stow Youth Baseball League.  He was proud of his children and grandchildren and loved bragging about them to anyone who would listen. His parents, William and Mary Cummings, and his sister, Mary Ziants, preceded Dick in death.  He is survived by his loving wife, Janet,  his daughter Sherry Rosche of Kent and son Scott (Debi) of Scottsdale, AZ.  He had four grandchildren, Laura and Rachel Rosche of Kent, and Samantha and Ben Cummings of Scottsdale,  AZ.  His brother, William (Pat), lives in New Mexico and his sister, Margaret Creighton, resides in Irwin, PA.  He had numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and will be missed by his family and many lifelong friends. The family would like to thank Dick and Shaan Fowler for their unwavering support and help and extends their gratitude to Maison Aine for their care of Dick. Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Monday, December 19 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.  Dr. David Palmer will conduct a service at the United Methodist Church of Kent on Tuesday, December 20 at 11 a.m.  Burial will be at Silver Springs Cemetery.
