Obituary of Eileen L. Butcher

Eileen Louise (Callen) Butcher, 89, of Kent, Ohio, passed away October 12, 2011. Eileen was born to Charles and Orva Callen in Tarentum, Pennsylvania on October 7, 1922. She moved to Kent at a young age and graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School.  In 1941, Eileen married Elwood Butcher. They lived in Kent and had two boys, Jerry and Dennis. Eileen was a proud supporter of the Kent Public Schools, and was President of Roosevelt’s PTA while her children were in school. She particularly enjoyed crocheting and gave away over 50 afghans and lap robes to family, friends and charitable organizations. She loved walking and playing golf. An especially treasured memory was her hole-in-one on a course in Florida. She and Elwood spent many winters in Melbourne, Florida fishing and playing golf. Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood in 1996, her sister Audrey Manson, brother-in-law Lt. Col. Ret. Richard Jones and sister-in-law Mildred Stahl. Left to mourn her passing are her children, Jerry (Julia) Butcher of New Franklin, Ohio and Dennis (Marian) Butcher of Jackson, Wyoming; 6 grandchildren David (Evelyn), Stephen, Jennifer (Mike), Emily, Angela (James) and Matthew (Kim) and 5 great-grandchildren Jeff, Drew, Graham, Ryan and Cassidy and one on the way. Also surviving are her sister Betty Jones of Texas; brother Gene (Jackie) Callen of Ohio; brother-in-law Roger Manson of California and brother-in-law George Stahl of Ohio. Eileen was a sweet and gentle person who put others’ thoughts and feelings before her own, especially when it came to her family. During her last several years, she was beautifully cared for at Stow-Glen Retirement Village and The Briarwood, both in Stow. Her family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the administrators, nurses and caregivers of both residences. Cremation has taken place. Per Eileen’s request there will be no calling hours. A private family gathering will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
