Obituary of Mary Orsich
Mary Orsich, 72, left her earthly dwelling for the heavenly banquet on August 3, 2011, pursuant to respiratory equipment failure, after the removal of a lobe of her lung.
Mary never loved anyone or anything more than the Lord and His Church. She considered the gift of faith to be the most precious of gifts from her parents. She was a lifetime “student” of the Bible and well-versed in it. Growing up, she attended Annunciation, and was married there to her loving and devoted husband, Jerry. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. They met at Firestone where she worked as secretary for her husband and the Engineering Department. She and her family have belonged to Holy Family Parish for the past 45 years.
She was the twelfth child of nineteen children born to George and Sarah Crine. Eight remain. She grew up in Goodyear Heights. Mary attended Betty Jane Grade School and Ellet High School. At Betty Jane her favorite teacher was Mrs. Joseph Rock who cared for her after long walks to school in wintery weather and throughout the year.
She loved her husband and children, cooking ethnic dishes for them, good books and films, playing her favorite game show, Jeopardy, live theatre and music of nearly every kind. Being an avid reader, and quite bright, she finished entire books in a day. Mom could have easily attended college but chose to unselfishly devote her life and time to her family. She was more than an excellent mother, homemaker, teacher, and friend. Her children never wanted for anything. She had many hobbies and interests, and could have been anything that she wanted to be: an interior decorator and designer, a chef, or doctor in the natural sciences.
After her children had nearly grown, Mary embarked upon the study of Graphoanalysis in the Scientific method and Gestalt method as well. She was about to begin study in forensic document examination when she felt called by the Lord to do His work in the charismatic movement – for which she worked many years. She belonged to its prayer group during this time and met many wonderful people there.
She would say that she loved to “amuse and confuse” herself with the guitar and piano, and recognized musical excellence in her son, Sam. As anyone who knew her could tell you, she practiced a charitable and generous lifestyle. Taking time to help, listen to, pray for, and speak with others were just some of her gifts of the Spirit. Mom’s greatest gift was bringing healing to the bodies, minds, and hearts of others. People would walk away inspired and uplifted. She will always be remembered for this. She practiced and nurtured the value of innocence, seeing only the best in others in situations where it did not seem justified. That’s just the kind of person she was. Samuel Orsich would personally like to thank Mom for a lifetime of happiness. This kind of person doesn’t pass your path every day. If there were only three words to help sum up her life, they would be Love, Love and Love.
Mary was predeceased by parents George and Sarah, siblings: John, Sarah, Duane, and “baby boy” Crine, Harold, twins Arnold and Ronald, Russell, Deloris and George and much-loved grandson, Jerrid. She leaves to mourn husband Jerry; stepson Steven, sons: Charles and daughter-in-law, Stacy; Timothy and daughter-in-law, Wendi; dearest daughter Vivian; youngest son Samuel; step grandchildren: Nicole (Eric) great grandson, Kaleb and Jessica (Donald), great granddaughter Abigail: grandchildren: Ryan, Robert, Sara, Jaccob, Emily and Jordan; sisters: Kathleen, Juanita, Margie, Marlene, Gloria Jean; brothers: Donald, Paul, and David.
