Obituary of Adele Abbott

STOW- Adele Abbott, 94, beloved wife of the late Albert J. Abbott , died July 11, 2011.  They knew each other 86 years and were married 68 years.  She was a devoted mother of Glenys Merriman (Richard), Virginia Dillon, and Donald Abbott (Irene); loving grandmother of Derek Abbott, Keith Hayes (Margaret), Jennifer Huffman (James), Erin Guenther, Valerie Goldman, and David Lee (Tara); and great-grandmother of Haley and Chase Guenther, Sean and Holly Hayes, Nathan Goldman, and Emma Lee. Through her efforts, she and Al sponsored several Korean children, one of whom, Bae Chi joon, became a part of our hearts and family.  Our lives have been enriched by him, his wife, and sons. Adele was born and raised in Ontario.  Her mother died when Adele was 11 leaving behind five young children.  Despite the depression years, her father kept the family together.   Adele worked to put herself through nursing school and graduated first in her class.  It was while she was in her nursing program that she again met Al, who was in college studying engineering, and whom she had known from her hometown in Ontario.  They married after completing their education and eventually moved to the United States, when Al was sought after by chemical companies in Michigan and Ohio.  They moved to the Akron area in 1955 and spent their remaining years here. Adele was a registered nurse for many years at Akron General Hospital and was an assistant supervisor in Central Service for the hospital.  She had an excellent reputation for her clear thinking and her highly professional manner.  She loved nursing and said she was always glad she became a nurse.  More than a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and nurse, she was a woman of faith.  She shared her faith, fasted and prayed for our nation and others, gave generously, putting Christ first in her life.  Both she and Al were committed Christians and always active in their church.  As a Presbyterian, Adele was a Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, and active in evangelism and the women’s associations.  Adele and Al maintained high standards for themselves and were admired and loved by many during their lifetime.   We as a family were truly blessed to call her mother and grandmother. Rev. Rhett Dodson and Pastor Jim Walter will conduct service Tuesday 11 AM at Grace Presbyterian Church, 781 Terex Road in Hudson.  Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 PM at Redmon Funeral Home.  Burial Stow Cemetery.  The family would like to thank Sunrise Assisted Living and Crossroads Hospice for their loving care of their parents.  If desired, donations may be made to Sunrise Assisted Living, 1500 State Road, Cuyahoga Falls 44223 or Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Green, OH 44685.  Mrs. Abbott's video tribute may be seen here.
