Obituary of Mary Jane Duty

Mary Jane Duty (Kunselman) 89, passed away June 3, 2011 in Florida.  Born in Kittaning, PA, she moved to Akron, graduated from Ellet High School and worked for General Tire & Rubber Co. during WWII.  She then worked alongside her husband and son in the family business, Duty Oil & Ice Company.  As a lifelong member of Tallmadge First Church of God, she served over 40 years as a Sunday School teacher and Children’s Director. After surviving breast cancer, she became a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, counseling women at home and sharing encouragement.  She loved God, sitting by the ocean and nurturing her family.  No one ever made better sugar cookies, banana cake or grape jelly. Preceded in death by her husband Russell and son Dale, she is survived by daughter Denise (Darryl) Dyal of Florida, grandchildren: Kurt Miller, Stacey (Joe) Nemith, and Shane Duty, great-grandchildren: Kraig, Kelli, Kenton, Kamryn, Dalen and Drake, great-great-grandson Haiden, sister Bonnie (Larry) Van Camp and brother Donald (Marlene) Kunselman. Friends are invited to the Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Friday from 4 to 6 PM, where Pastor William Wimmer will conduct service Saturday 10 AM.  Interment Hillside Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of God, 464 Northeast Ave., Tallmadge, OH 44278.  Mrs. Duty’s video tribute may be viewed here.
