Obituary of Angela M. Artese
HUDSON - Angela M. Artese (nee Cerce), 70, passed from this life
on May 12, 2011.
A loving, devoted and selfless wife, mother, and sister, she is survived by her husband, Vic, daughter Nicki of University Heights, son Victor of Hudson, her brother and sister-in-law Michael and Jeanne Cerce of Greensburg, PA, and sisters-in-law Elizabeth Boyle of Denver, CO, and Dolores Trestik of Casper, WY.
Angela was born December 30, 1940 in Cleveland, the firstborn of Vincent Cerce and Elizabeth Delsanter, who both preceded her in death. She attended Collinwood High School in Cleveland, where she was a cheerleader and school paper editor. She also managed to hold an after-school job. The Cerces moved to Lyndhurst, where, in 1959, Angela graduated from Brush High School and was chosen to be Secretary to the Asst. Superintendent. She went on to earn her wings at the highly selective United Airlines Stewardess School in Cheyenne, WY, in 1961. Angela was assigned to Chicago O’Hare Airport and later transferred to Denver, where, in 1963, she met future naval officer, Vic. In 1964, Vic was stationed in San Diego, and Angela transferred to the Los Angeles airport to be closer to him. The couple wed in 1965 at St. Clare Church in Lyndhurst. Upon their marriage, Angela had to resign from United, which employed only single flight attendants at the time. The couple had their first child, Nicolette (Nicki), in San Diego in 1966, then moved back to Cleveland, where Victor Jr. was born in 1968. The family moved to Hudson in 1972, where Angela worked for the city schools for 15 years until 1988, when, pursuant to a class action lawsuit, United invited her to return to flying with full retroactive seniority. She flew for ten more years before retiring with 38 years of recognized service. Angela enjoyed genealogy research, travel, entertaining, sewing, bridge, puzzles and books, and has a body of creative work to her credit, including two family cookbooks and an Artese family genealogy book. Angela was a Eucharistic Minister at her church, chair of their food committee and a member of the parish choir, prayer shawl ministry and social concerns committee. She lived for and loved her family with all her heart and soul.
