Obituary of Jackson Oscar Steele
CUYAHOGA FALLS – Jackson “Jack” Oscar Steele, 90, passed away April 13, 2011 at Sunrise Assisted Living with his family by his side.
Jack was born in Chauncey, WV, lived most of his life in Cuyahoga Falls and retired as a tire design engineer from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in 1985, after 45 years of service. Jack served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army during World War II. He was a member of the Cuyahoga Falls Masonic Lodge #35 and a 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls. Jack was past president of Sunny Hills Golf and Recreation. He loved to play golf, Euchre, and Bridge and enjoyed traveling with his wife, family and friends. Jack was a very easy going person and constantly had a good disposition and a positive attitude. He loved family and friends and invariably enjoyed any family get-together. Jack married the love of his life, Margaret Achberger (whom he used to call Babe), on August 20, 1944. They were married for 64 years. Jack was a truly kind and honest man who strived to be a good Christian and to do the right thing by everybody he met. He was a man of his word and someone who could be counted on. He lived his life by the belief that you do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Forever polite and mannerly, Jack was a true gentleman in every sense of the word.
Jack was preceded in death in 2008, by Marge, his wife of 64 years, and in 2010 by his brother Jim. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Jack and Jeanne Steele of Cuyahoga Falls, Randy and Rosemarie Steele of Paducah, KY, Todd Steele of LaGrange, OH; grandchildren Eric Steele, Rachel (John) Higdon, Paul, Sarah and Marc (Sunita) Steele, great-grandchildren Katelyn and Caleb Higdon, sisters Betty Pelligra of Cuyahoga Falls, Margie (Bill) Hoover of Copley and brother Ted Steele of Copley.
