Obituary of Kathryn K. Hanson
Kathryn Kirkpatrick Hanson, 93, born January 12, 1918 died April 11, 2011. Kathryn was born in St. Michael, PA and grew up in Kent, OH. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alden Hanson; her parents, Norma and Michael Kirkpatrick; step-mother, Helen Walter Kirkpatrick; her dear cousin, Jeanne Shuman; and special friend, John LaConti.
She leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Diamond of Stow; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Joseph Vittorio of Columbus, OH; and daughter, Carolyn Towner of Worthington, OH., grandchildren: Lisa Towner, Debra (Rusty) Dodd, Matthew Diamond (Jessica Timmons), Jennifer (Christopher) Weber, and Joshua (Laura) Novak. She leaves 8 great-grandchildren: Erin Dodd; Tim Manley; Hunter and Heidi Timmons; Griffin Towner; and Isaac, Aurelia and Charlie Weber. Also, Kathryn leaves her dear sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Denver Collins; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She moved as a young bride to the Hanson Farm in Stow which was one of the earliest farms in the area, established in 1832. She dearly loved her husband, Alden; and his parents, Thomas and Celia Hanson; and they dearly loved her. Later on, the farm was leased to Fox Den Golf Course; and after that, 91 acres were sold to the golf course in 1986. The Hansons retained two acres with the house and several barns. In 2003, the house and barns were sold.
Mrs. Hanson graduated from Roosevelt High School in Kent, OH; and graduated from Kent State University with a B.S. Degree in Education. She taught third grade for 22 years in the Stow-Munroe Falls City School System. She loved playing contract bridge and was in a bridge club for 60 years.
She was also a member of the Ladies Nine-Hole League at Fox Den for approximately 20 years. Kathryn was a charter member of the United Methodist Church of Stow, charter member of the Stow Junior Mother’s Club, Delta Gamma Sorority Alumnae, a life member of the Stow Historical Society, a life member of the Ohio P.T.A, Ohio Teachers Retirement Association, Stow Woman’s Club, and the Esther Group of the United Methodist Church of Stow.
Friends are invited to the Redmon Funeral Home for visitation Friday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM, where Rev. Scott Hayward will conduct service Saturday 12:30 PM and where friends may call Saturday from 11 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Homes Foundation, Inc., 2300 Call Road, Stow, OH 44224; The United Methodist Church of Stow, 4880 Fishcreek Road, Stow, OH 44224 and/or The Williams Syndrome Assoc., 570 Kirts Blvd., Ste. 223, Troy, MI 48084.
