Obituary of James G. Tyree
STOW- James G. “Coach” Tyree, 79, passed from this world to life everlasting on February 12, 2011.
Born in Akron, he was a Stow resident since 1960, a graduate of Ellet High School and a US Navy veteran. Jim earned his bachelors degree from Baldwin Wallace College, where he was a 3-sport athlete and All-American in football, and then received his masters degree from Kent State University. His inductions include Stow High School Athletic, Ellet Football, Baldwin Wallace College Athletic Halls of Fame, Stow High School Faculty Wall of Fame and both the Summit County Athletic and Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Halls of Fame. For over 33 years, he was a teacher and coach at Stow High School and for more than 30 years was the manager of Munroe Falls Metro Parks. Jim spent much of his time the past 22 years as the manager at the Silver Lake Boathouse.
There are not many men that in the same breath you can call a: Great Dad, Husband, Mentor, Hero, Friend, Caregiver, Coach, Teacher and Man of God.
Preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Donna, his granddaughter Haley Feldman and his brother Jerry Tyree, he is survived by his daughters Janeann (Jim) Richardson of Stow, Leslie (Curt) Feldman of Charlotte, NC; son Jay (Kristin) of Tallmadge; grandchildren Mackenzie, Mallory, Dana, Shana, Erin,and Cole; brother Dan (Erma) Tyree of Ellet; sister-in-law Kathy Tyree of CA; brother-in-law Bill (Joanie) Archer of Cincinnati; sister-in-law Dorothy Archer of FL and a multitude of other family members and friends.
There are no calling hours. Pastor John Wilson will conduct a memorial service Friday 4 PM at The Chapel, 135 Fir Hill in Akron. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Tallmadge Alliance Church, where Jim had attended for many years, 1155 East Ave, Tallmadge 44278.
