Obituary of Jean Drainer

CUYAHOGA FALLS, OH - Jean Drainer, 86, died November 12, 2010. Born in Grafton, WV, daughter of the late Sarah Stemple Sandsbury and Theodore Dorsey Sandsbury, she graduated from Grafton High School in 1942 and from Clarksburg Business College. Jean worked at Hazel Atlas, Loara’s Jewelry Store, Red Cross-Fairmont,  Benedum Airport in Clarksburg and also at The Pullman.  Jean later worked in Fairmont for WMNM and was a member of Fairmont Eastern Star for over 50 years.   Jean retired from the Pinellas Co. School Board, Clearwater, FL,  in 1986. Jean was a true “mountain mama”.   During the depression, when families all lived together, the mountain gave you character, strength and courage most people do not have today.  God gave her faith, hope and most of all, love and kindness.  All of these characteristics are instilled in me as her daughter.  Together we fought this battle.  In the final moments of life, I could hold Jean’s face in my hands and look into her soft brown eyes and know that she loved me and I loved her.  Preceded in death by husband George W. Drainer, Jr. on November 13, 2001, and by her brother Theodore Sandsbury on October 12, 1996, she is survived by her daughter JoAnn Drainer-Helbig (Robert) of Cuyahoga Falls, with whom Jean made her home for the last 11 years.  Jean is also survived by her sister Norma Bartlett (Ron) of Newark, OH. Services will be held Saturday, November 20th at 1 PM at Stemple Ridge Church, Rt. 50 in Aurora.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Dr. Suite E, Green, OH 44685
