Obituary of Opal V. Monk
On Saturday, August 7, 2010 Opal Virginia Monk went home to be with the Lord. A lifetime resident of the Akron area, Opal was born on February 20, 1926. She was the fifth of eleven children born to Thomas Edgar and Myrtle Shumate.
She was preceded in death by her precious daughter, Donna Jean Monk, and her husband of more than 50 years, Charles Edward Monk.
She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Cook (Raymond) of Akron, son Charles Richard Monk (Emily) who lives in the Phillipines, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She leaves two very special nieces who were like daughters,Ilene Myers and Sharon Alberson and also very special nephew Bill Dobbins. She also leaves two sisters, Dorothy Gibson of Hartville, OH, Maxine Allhouse of Stone Mt., GA., and brother Douglas Shumate of Knoxville, TN, and many other nieces and nephews.
Opal enjoyed working as a Real Estate Agent for over 30 years in the City of Akron. She will be missed by family, friends and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Food Cupboard, 647 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44304.
A graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Burial Park in Fairlawn on Friday, August 13th at 2 PM with Rev. Mark Ford officiating.
