Obituary of William M. Bishop
William M. Bishop, 77, an area resident for over 50 years, died June 7, 2010 of pancreatic cancer.
Born in Kaylor, Pa. to the late Joseph and Hattie Bishop, Bill was a 1955 graduate of Allegheny College where he was a stellar athlete competing in basketball and baseball. He was inducted into the Allegheny College Athletic Hall of Fame in the charter class of 1981 and the Butler County, Pa. Sports Hall of Fame in 1992. Following his active duty in the U.S. Air Force, Bill continued his career with the B. F. Goodrich Aerospace Division and retired in 1995 with 40 years of service, being instrumental in the opening of the Aircraft Evacuation Systems facility in Phoenix, AZ. The Bishop family went on many camping trips throughout the United States and in retirement Bill and Mona traveled frequently to Europe. He also proudly supported the Akron Art Museum. As a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Bill served as a Deacon and Elder. His life motto was “My faith, my family, and my friends.”
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mona, his college sweetheart; daughter, Laura L. Bishop; sons, William P. (Sandi) and Robert J. (Caroline); and his beloved grandsons, Colin and Clayton.
The family thanks Crossroads Hospice for their compassionate care of Bill in his final days.
