Obituary of Vern H. Daugherty

STOW-Vern H. Daugherty, 55 passed away suddenly on May 8, 2010 due to complications from pancreatic cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Annie Viola and John Edward Daugherty; sisters, Betty and Constance Marlene; brothers, John and Glen and father-in-law Dr. Melvin E. Farris. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Laura Farris-Daugherty; daughter, son-in-law and grandson Denise, John and James Sumner; son PFC Daniel Daugherty; mother-in-law, Leona W. Farris, sisters: Shirley (Richard), Mary (Vernon) and brother Don (Joan). Sisters-in-law Judy (Carl), Betty and brother-in-law Mel Jr (Laurie). Nieces and nephews: Gary (Pat), Cliff (Mary), Randy, Karen (Jack), Sandra (Paul), Richard (Chris), Eva, Tim (Susan), Ted (Carmen), John (Beth), Lee (Liz), Lisa (Brad), Glen Jr., Greg (Jennifer), Steven, Cindy (Michael), Michael ( Angella), David (Kim), Don Jr. (Ann), Fred (Kathy), Marty (Anna), Beth Anne (Naza), Carl III, AJ, Mel III (Debra), Ian, Dominique, Stephen, Kevin and Deborah. Great nieces and nephews: TJ (Rob), Tom (Amy), Adrienne (Brian), Sarah (Dan), Andrew, Elaine, Natasha, Jason (Sarah), Jennifer Tom), Rebecca (Michael), Teresa (Britt), Melissa (Sebastian), Johnathon, Sarah (Phillip), Robbie, Zachary, Steven, Laurie, Dakota, Corey, Luiza, Erin, Michael, Laura, James, Matthew, Zachary, Mackenzie, Kaylee, Cass, Jared, Sabrina, Christopher, Jacob, Jadon, Hadley, Tara, Cassie, Nate (Danielle), Christopher, Stephen, Sierra and a multitude of great great nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his many friends, colleagues, co-workers at WRC, NIT and fellow UA classmates and professors. Vern was an electronic engineering technologist for over 12 years at Western Reserve Controls. He also taught electronics technology at the National Institute of Technology (now Fortis College) for over 14 years. He was also completing his Bachelor of Science, Engineering Electronic Technology at the University of Akron where he was on the Dean’s list. He enjoyed reading, Sudoku, walking, tinkering with anything electronic and solving the “crimes” on “Criminal Minds and CSI” with his wife Laura. He was extremely proud to be a father, husband and new grandpa. A very special thanks to Pauline, Yong, Fred and the staffs of the following units at Summa (Akron City Hospital): Acute Palliative Care Unit, Acute Care for Elders, Special Procedures. Thank you for the excellent care of the following Doctors Shelby Cash, Sameer Mahesh, Bandi, Duane Roe, Shaheen, Myerscough and Brian Pollock. Services will be held Saturday 12 noon at Redmon Funeral Home, where friends may call Friday 5 to 8 PM and Saturday from 11 AM until service time.
