I was in a reflective mood and was thinking about my time at Borden Chemical Company and the various relationships, particularly Joe. As all who knew him, Joe was a guy that arranged gatherings, particularly poker. I remember that one time when, it was my time to host the game, I wanted to save money so I bought packaged sandwich meat instead of deli. Boy did I get hammered on! Wish I could do it again......I probably would opt for packaged....sorry Joe.....I love you, my friend.

A sad occurrence indeed. When at Borden, Inc. I worked with Joe and saw him from time to time after I left the organization. I have thought about Joe from time to time over the years. I remember fondly the frequent porker games he organized. He was always the gentlemen, entertainer, and friend; gosh was he a fun guy! I remember his putting me in contact with one of his neighbors that had a Datsun Z for sale, which I purchased (wish I hadn't though).
Gosh what a guy.
My deep sympathies to Mike and the rest of his family.

I had the pleasure of working with Joe at Borden but also lived a block down the street from his home. Joe had his workshop in the garage and the garage door was almost always open with Joe building or fixing something. If he ran out of projects he would check with the neighbors to see if they needed anything done.
For example, I decided to finish my basement (or Joe decided for me) and we got about half done when I got involved with something else and stopped working on it. Joe was not happy and would have finished it himself if I would have let him.
The big guy loved and was very proud of his family and showed it in many ways.
Can we ever forget his smile and happy manner? Home Depot will have to start making deliveries to Heaven.
Monica,Joe Jr, Kimberly and grandchildren we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Joe, we always said that "he who dies with the most tools wins", you won. I hope heaven has a workshop wher you can still make sawdust.

I joined Borden within months of Joe, and his good humor and effervescence were a huge contribution to working life. His talents for mechanics and BIG jobs were a marvel, and he shared his skills with this helpless New Yorker for car and home repairs large and small. In fact, I remember my very first visit to his Westerville home when his instructions to exit I-270 at Cleveland Avenue led me to use the I-71 exit to Cleveland instead! My sincere condolences to Monica, Joseph and Kimberly; we have all lost a most dear friend!

Worked with Joe for many years @ Borden. I was shocked and saddened to hear this news. Being from Pittsburgh and from similar backgrounds, we enjoyed telling Pittsburgh stories. My deepest sympathy to the Shimo family. Joe will be missed.

He was a big man in so many ways; stature, intellect, compassion and heart. I know that you will miss him dearly. His sense of humor, laughter and if they didn't get you it was those piercing blue eyes.
He and I worked together in the late 70's and early 80's at Borden and became fast friends. We stayed in contact and would make at least one long call a year to each other at Christmas time. As I told Monica, the call would always end with us crying and telling each other how we loved one another. Big tough men!
Monica, Joey and Kimberly; Joe loved you all dearly and was so proud of his children. Connor and Kylie, know that when I spoke with your Grandfather; I could hear the love and pride he had in you two. You filled his life and I could hear it when he spoke of you.
Know how much I will miss Joe and the Christmas calls (he didn't always play by the rules) the call initiation was to alternate years, but he would get antsy and call. I cannot imagine your loss. Love ... Jim
