Obituary of Joan Caperton Shorter

JOAN CAPERTON SHORTER Joan Caperton Shorter passed away peacefully at the incredible age of 102 on Friday, April 2, 2015. Born in Salt Lake City, UT in 1913, Joan lived many places during her long and fruitful life before moving to Silver Lake, Ohio to be near her son and his family in 1997. She had been a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, most recently attending First Presbyterian Church of Akron. Having earned her bachelor's degree in geology after attending Northwestern and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana she had also enjoyed various career opportunities throughout her life, such as being a teacher and a copywriter in Burlington, IA, and an assistant on the local draft board in Rochester, MN. Preceded in death by her husband Lazar Shorter and son Terry, she is survived by her sons Dr. Edward "Ned" Shorter of Toronto, Canada and Andrew "Drew" Shorter of Cuyahoga Falls; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Edward William Caperton. Reverend Mark Ruppert will conduct services Saturday at 11 AM at Redmon Funeral Home where friends may call from 10 AM until service time. Further services and burial will be held in Brandon, MS
