Obituary of Michael Lee Hill
Michael L. Hill, Sr., 80, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 after his long battle with cancer. Born in Akron on Sept. 27, 1934 to Charles and Ida (Holderfield) Hill, he grew up in Peninsula and attended Peninsula High School. Following his service in the US Air Force during the Korean War, he founded Mike Hill Concrete and Construction Co. which operated in the Akron area and where he worked up until his illness. Mike was a very sociable and compassionate person and his concrete business was his true passion. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Cuyahoga Falls-Akron and Barberton Lodge 1923 for over 40 years and served three terms as Exalted Ruler. As District Activities Chairman, he was invited to travel with the Ohio President of B.P.O.E. for a year. He was also a long-time member of American Legion Post 281 in Cuyahoga Falls. He loved to help those in need especially during the holidays by serving meals to the Portage Tower residents and helping set up Christmas trees at the Holiday Tree Festival as a volunteer of Akron Children’s Hospital.
Preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ruth and Peggy and brothers Ernie and Chuck, he is survived by his two sons, Michael (Tina) Hill, Jr. and their daughters Crystal (Doug) Noel, Cailin Hill, Megan Hill and his great grandson Connor; James (Christina) Hill and their children, Christopher, Michael and Robert, and Christina’s son Jason, and two great-grandchildren; brothers Dick and John Hill; sisters Mary Ann and Virginia; step-children Robert Glidden, Richard, Cheryl, Vicky, Vallery, Darlene and Mike Linke; and several other grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
He is also survived by his dear loved friend and partner of 24 years, Sue Testa of Tallmadge; her daughters, Sherry Ainsworth, Debbie (Kurt) Thomas, Pam Lusher, Joanna (Dave) Olson and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many extended family and friends.
Cremation has taken place. Private burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life event will be held at B.P.O.E. Lodge 1923, 2550 State Rd., Cuyahoga Falls on Saturday, August 1 beginning at 3 PM with dinner served at 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the B.P.O.E. Lodge 1923 Scholarship Fund.
