As Callie Nauman's parents, we saw how close her group of guy and girl friends were while attending Ohio State. Callie talked frequently about how they were all there for each other and also had fun and made memories. We see how much Greg will be missed. He will never be forgotten by any of them.

I had the privilege of knowing Greg for many years. From the numerous days at Seton to playing Walsh Hockey together, I count myself lucky to have been able to spend so much time with a such a remarkable person. Greg was the rare type of individual that was able to bring the best out of everyone around him both on the ice and as a human being. I am truly sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Mrs. and Mr. Shupe and Andrew;
I am so very sorry for your incomprehensible loss. We are all hurting with you too.
I have never met a more sincere, heart-warming, and honest person than Greg. Since the moment we met, I knew he was special and that his life would mean so much to us all. We need only to look at his life, to see, to understand how he showed us what it truly means to live. His attitude made me believe everything good was possible in life, and I can not think of a better friend to have grown up with. Those memories are enough to make any life a great life.
I wish you all somehow some peace in knowing Greg's life will continue to be a living witness to us all, that his spirit will be forever with us. Shupey, you will be forever remembered, forever loved. I am honored to call you " true friend" and will keep you alive in my heart.

Dearest Kendra, Tom, and Andrew;
I cannot fathom what you are going through right now. Patrick and I both feel your pain and irreparable loss. We are crushed. All our love and support are with you, whatever you need. Between our tears of sorrow we laugh in pure joy as we talk about all that Greg means to us, as to the world:
“In friendship...we think we have chosen our peers. In reality a few years' difference in the dates of our births, a few more miles between certain houses, the choice of one university instead of another...the accident of a topic being raised or not raised at a first meeting--any of these chances might have kept us apart. But, for a Christian, there are, strictly speaking no chances. A secret master of ceremonies has been at work. Christ, who said to the disciples, "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you," can truly say to every group of Christian friends, "Ye have not chosen one another but I have chosen you for one another." The friendship is not a reward for our discriminating and good taste in finding one another out. It is the instrument by which God reveals to each of us the beauties of others.”
C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves
We are humbly grateful to have been chosen to journey in this life entwined with Greg, for the sweet taste of his boundless passion and inspiration and love he gave so unselfishly to all. As Patrick says, Greg made you feel special just being with him.
May you find some measure of comfort from our promise that the true essence of Greg’s glorious spirit and unmatchable memories of childhood-to-adulthood friendship and growth shared will forever endure in our hearts and minds... for our Beloved Shupey, until we meet again...
Shupey, you were art in motion on that ice - and among the world. You felt the breeze. Your heart pounded. You gazed into the heavens. You knew joy and brought joy to all you knew. You loved. You saw suffering and wanted to alleviate it. You knew hard work and struggle and sorrow yet pressed onward. You learned. You changed. You grew. You laughed. You cried. You bled upon the pages of your days. You lived with intention. You touched souls! You were truly present. You truly lived your life. You are forever loved.
Patrick and Karen

Dear Tom, Kendra, Bob and Ruth,
I know there are no words that comfort during this heartbreaking time in your lives. Hugs, tears and lots of memories from those who knew your son and grandson will be plentiful.
Time seems to ease pain but it all morphs into another plain.
We still hear from folks that knew Russell and that is of comfort.
One can look for answers but there never seems to be any. The word that seems to make the most is trust.
Our sympathy . Nancy and Ed Gates
