I was lucky enough to be born on my favorite uncle's birthday. When ever I saw my Uncle Ray, he would say,"Hey Deanna, when is your birthday? I can never remember". Then he would smile and chuckle with that little twinkle in his eye that he and my dad both had. I loved hearing his stories and his kind and gentle manner. He was a joy to be around and I will miss him.

One of my very favorite teachers! He gave me a C (instead of an F) on my bug collection because I couldn't bare to put a pin through them and taped them all to the bottom of butter bowls. He asked if he could keep my collection as an example of what not to do. RIP Mr. Crawford and know you made a difference!

Ray was a special person who brought great joy to everyone he met. At Wooster, our freshman year, he lived directly opposite my room. Dorm life was a never ending series of great practical jokes and I have to admit that Ray usually came out on top. We also washed pots and pans together in Babcock Hall for our last three years. Again, Ray kept us on our toes with constant fun chatter. He was the favorite of the Babcock cooks and, since we ate our meals in the Babcock kitchen, he ensured that we never went hungry or missed an extra bowl of ice cream.
Over the years my career in the Navy kept me from being able to attend many of our Wooster reunions. Later, after my retirement from the Navy, I treasured my opportunities to meet and catch up with him at Wooster.
My sympathy goes out to all the family. Ray was a man who could light up a room with his smile. He will be missed.

How do we bid farewell to someone who has been a friend our entire adult lives? Ray has been an inspiration, a rock, a true buddy--someone we love and will miss greatly. Craig met Ray while working as an RA at Kent State's men's dorm, Dunbar Hall. Ray was the head RA and a friend to all. Nothing ruffled him--not even fires and floods in "animal corridor." We can still picture "Raysville" riding in his gold Riviera, looking like he owned the world. Both of us cherish the memory of watching the moon landing with Ray and Jana in 1969 and of course their wedding that same summer. More recent memories include family visits in Stow and Springfield, Illinois, Emily's beautiful wedding, and a shared vacation in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Ray faced challenges with strength and good humor. He lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed his wonderful family and many friends. It has been a privilege to know Ray and his beloved and loving wife Jana.

Dear Crawford Family,
I am deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Crawford's passing. I, like many other students had the privilege of having him as a teacher for Biology and AP Biology at KHS. The leaf collections, bug collections, dissections were all just a part of the class and he made them fun. 20 years later I still remember scientific names of leaves and bugs. While I didn't want to teach or study biology after high school and college, I still have an affinity for the subject and Mr. Crawford was instrumental in that.
He loved golf, we loved soccer and it was always a "classroom battle" over what was the "cooler" sport. His smurf drawings on exams and the correct spelling of separate has "a rat" are just some of the other fond memories I have of my time as a student with him.
An inspiration to all and I hope you find stories like this to be a source of comfort and peace during this difficult time. Mr. Crawford was a teacher, friend and father figure to all who crossed his path and I will be eternally grateful that I was able to be one of those students.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Derek Weaver
KHS Class of '98

Mr. Crawford was one of the nicest teachers I have ever had the pleasure to learn from. I can still hear him talk about plant cells and the different phylum names to insects. He was so informative, smiley, and understanding. I never heard him raise his voice. I'm praying for all of you. I'm sorry for your loss. Heaven gained a very kind soul.

Mr. Crawford was my teacher at Kenmore High School (1967). He was the teacher that you wanted to study for so he wouldn't be disappointed if your grade was not good enough. We all thought he was so sweet and so cute (highschoolgirls) but we also learned so much from him and really enjoyed the time in his classes. He cared about teaching us and was always plugged in to sharing his thoughts and hearing our as well. He was always one of my favorite teachers, always kind and engaging. Thanks for sharing him with us and I am so sorry for your loss. He was a good guy and a great teacher.

Mr. Crawford was my Homeroom teacher at Kenmore and I enjoyed coming into class each day...he always greeted us with a smile and a joke. He gave me the nickname '#34' since my name was similar to the Periodic element, Selenium. He was a bright light in a lot of student's educational experiences, including my own. He will be greatly missed!

Heartfelt condolences to Ray's wife Jana, his family and friends. You don't need to be told how special his life was. The words that follow are a sincere though inadequate effort to express what makes his life so special to mine.
Ray and I developed a strong friendship moving together as freshmen, pledges to the same local fraternity and graduates in the Class of 1962 at the College of Wooster. During those days we shared life changing experiences interspersed with challenges, capped by triumph.
When we would see each other at college reunions, Ray, our school friends and I were immediately transported from our current era back to when we were the indomitable teenagers who met almost 60 years ago. Those were priceless encounters.
Like all Ray's Wooster friends, I could tell his grandkids many true stories that reflect the great wit and sense of humor they have experienced in him. These were all grounded on his strong intellect, commitment to achieve, and grace toward friends and strangers alike.
As one of Ray’ boyhood friends now fully seasoned, I can say with confidence that we will remember him throughout the days of our lives.
