Obituary of Sandra J. Edwards

The treasured life of Sandra Jean Edwards, 68, came to its peaceful end in her home state of Ohio on November 17, 2015 as a result of brain cancer. Sandra was born to Dale and Jean Edwards on January 28, 1947. She grew up in the Akron, Ohio, area where she graduated from high school in 1965, and began her working years at B.F. Goodrich Company. In 1968, Sandra moved to Minnesota where she continued to work, began many long-lasting friendships, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Education in 1973 from the University of Minnesota. An independent spirit and the love of teaching and learning led Sandra to a wide range of endeavors, including teaching office skills within a variety of businesses, teaching literacy skills to adults, primarily for St. Paul Public Schools, and operating the scoreboard for the Minnesota Twins at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, as well as working with the team for several seasons at Spring Training in Florida. In the fall of 1997, Sandra followed her dream of living in the Southwest and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where she continued to work in the field of adult education, primarily in Mesa. She also maintained her connection with baseball, working for the San Francisco Giants at their Spring Training. In 2007, Sandra completed her Master’s degree in Education at Northern Arizona University. Sandra truly appreciated life’s many gifts and opportunities, and her warmth, kindness and joyful approach to life, along with an infectious and memorable laugh, won the hearts of many who will dearly miss her. Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved parents and sister, Linda Royer. She is survived by cousin, dear friend and caregiver, Delores Bloom; brother-in-law, John Royer; niece, Jenny Fitzgerald and nephew, John Royer, Jr.; numerous cousins; and cherished friend Lyle and many other beloved friends in Minnesota and Arizona. The family and friends of Sandra are deeply grateful to the staff at Hospice of the Western Reserve and at Heather Knoll Nursing and Rehabilitation Center especially Yvonne, Sophia, Tia and Ros for their wonderful care and support during the last months of Sandra’s life.
