Obituary of Margaret Umbaugh

Margaret Umbaugh, 99, went home to be with the Lord on February 2, 2016. Margaret was born and raised on a farm in Burket, Indiana. She delighted in playing in the creek with her three brothers and feeding her spring lambs. She was raised with three brothers by loving, Christian parents. She attended Manchester College and at the age of 20, began teaching a classroom of 45 third and fourth graders. Having met her husband in Winona Lake, Indiana when he was a seminary student, they were married in August of 1942. Glen was drafted six months after their marriage and they were separated while he fought in France and Belgium in WWII. He returned home in March of 1946 and they began their family, moving to Stow, Ohio in 1958. Margaret taught at Silver Lake School for three years. She helped found the American Field Service of Stow, was a founding member of Tallmadge Lutheran Church, and led a women’s Bible study that endured for 40 years. She was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, choir member and started another Bible study at the age of 98. Her faith in God sustained her throughout her 99 years. She is preceded in death by her cherished husband of 56 years, Glendon Umbaugh. She will be deeply missed by her children, Carolyn (Craig), David (Sue), Diane (Roger), Sharon (Jim Bunten); her grandchildren, Matt (Sara), Julia (Kevin), Megan (Jason), Tim (Lauren), Brad (Kate), Betsy (David), Joel (Sarah), Michael, Ariel (Daniel), and Morgan; and 18 great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 1 to 4 PM on Sunday, February 7 at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2141 Fifth St., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221 with Pastor Ryan Honeycutt officiating. Burial Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lutheran World Relief or the donor’s favorite charity.
