Dwight Ickes

Obituary of Dwight D. Ickes

After a valiant 3 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer, Dwight "Doug" Ickes passed away Thursday, May 12, at home with his family by his side. Doug was born in Ft. Meade, MD to Robert and Evelyn Ickes who precede him in death. He attended Alliance High School, graduating in 1967, and continued on to earn his MBA from Kent State University in 1972. He worked for UPS for 36 years, retiring from management in 2005. Doug is survived by his loving wife, Mary Kay Ickes (Glendon). Together they shared 28 wonderful years and were blessed with 3 children. In addition to his wife and 3 children, Dan, Sarah and Monica; he is also survived by his 3 brothers, Gary, Ron, and Tom; nieces, nephews, many extended family members and lifelong friends. Doug had a contagious smile and entertaining sense of humor, making sure we laughed until he left. He was always dedicated to his family, who will forever remember his constant love, presence, pride and support in their lives. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support they have received in many heartfelt forms. A special thank you is extended to the Cleveland Clinic for helping him defy the odds and to Hospice of the Western Reserve for their support through the end of Doug's battle. Words cannot possibly convey how much we wish he was still here, but we love him beyond measure and are happy he has found his sunny day. Friends are invited to Redmon Funeral Home in Stow for calling hours Wednesday, May 18 from 5-8 pm. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 19 at 10 am at Holy Family Catholic Church in Stow. A private burial will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at http://support.pancan.org/goto/DougIckes or to Hospice of the Western Reserve.
