Obituary of George H. Richard

SILVER LAKE—George H. Richard, 91, died May 16, 2016. He was born in a farmhouse near Reisterstown, MD during a blizzard in the early morning of January 5, 1925. After graduating Baltimore City College in 1942, he went to work at the B&O Railroad. In 1943, he served in the U.S. Army and returned from the Pacific theater on his twenty-first birthday. His gratification as a solder only became apparent after both grandsons elected to serve in the military. In 1960, George moved his family from Baltimore to Akron to work for the E.P. Lambert Company. He served with integrity until he retired in 1990 as Executive VP. He loved poetry and pressed for formal education of his sons. A life long Lutheran, he served numerous responsibilities for the church. Preceded in death by wife Mildred in 2008 after 57 years of marriage and survived by sons, Stephen (Dori) of South Carolina and Timothy (Diane) of Silver Lake; grandsons, Andrew and Mark; and sister, Hilda Geiwitz of Baltimore. Special thanks to Great Lakes Caring and to the loving support of Tallmadge Lutheran Church. Cremation has taken place. Pastor Andy Alberts will conduct a memorial service Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 12 noon at Tallmadge Lutheran Church, 759 East Avenue, Tallmadge, 44278, where friends may call one hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church.
