Obituary of Wilda D. Hunt

Wilda Dible Hunt, age 100 and resident of Stow for 69 years, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2016. Wilda was born on March 21, 1916 in Irwin, PA and was the only child of the late Henrietta and Thomas Warren of Pittsburgh. She graduated from Taylor Alderdice High School in Pittsburgh and from the Pittsburgh Business Academy. She married Hubert Hunt, her husband of 58 years, and they moved to Akron as a young couple when Hubert was offered employment at Goodyear Aerospace. Hubert retired after 35 years at Goodyear and after ten years co-owning, with Wilda, a business involving charter fishing on Lake Erie. Wilda retired from Ben Franklin Stores in Stow after 17 years working as a re-buyer. Wilda was active in numerous community organizations in Stow. She was a 50 year member of the First Christian Church, a charter member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Stow Woman's Club, Sunshiners, and the Stow Historical Society. She was a volunteer at the Stan Hywet gift shop for several years. When her children were young, Wilda took leadership positions with the Girl Scouts, Darrow Street Grange, Cub Scouts, and teaching Sunday School. Wilda was always a reliable and dedicated volunteer. She imbued her volunteer activities with her well-known love of arts and crafts and continued to create ceramics and hooked rugs well into her 80s. Wilda is survived by her son William and his wife Joan of Stow, and her daughter Linda Beyer and husband Klaus of Poughkeepsie, NY. Also surviving are granddaughter Sylvia Beyer of Raleigh, NC and granddaughter Julia Beyer and her husband Vasily Gerasimov and their son Alexander, all of Rockville, MD. Wilda’s family would like to thank Harbor Light Hospice for their compassionate care. According to Wilda's wishes, there are no calling hours. Burial in the family plot in Irwin, PA will be private and at the convenience of the family. Donations in memory of Wilda may be sent to the First Christian Church of Stow, 3493 Darrow Road, Stow 44224.
