Obituary
Obituary of Eleanor A. Tyler
Heaven’s gates opened for Ellie on July 15, 2016 after a long and full life and just 19 days before her 92nd birthday.
Ellie was born in Cleveland on August 3, 1924 to John C. and Tillie (Cerny) Blahovec and was one of three children. She lived and worked in Cleveland until she married Stuart Tyler (deceased), her husband of 60 years. Together they moved to Mayfield Heights where they spent the next 50 years and raised their two daughters, Arlene Tyler and Norene (Tyler) Jones. Ellie is also survived by son-in-law, Ron Jones, whom she regarded as her “son”; grandson, Timothy Tyler Jones (wife, Stephanie); and great-granddaughter, Nicole. Nikki (age 3) loved her great-grandma and enjoyed making her “tea” and “cookies”.
Ellie is also survived by nieces, Carol Matuska Kudej (Bob), Janet Matuska Celedonia (Frank), Melinda Blahovec Grohman (Don), JoAnn Blahovec Rans, Lynn Kleissler Cooper, Jan Spearance; nephew, Rich Cooper (Cathy Kay) and many grand nieces and nephews. She also leaves treasured cousin, Evelyn Dvorak Strong and family.
Preceded in death by sister, Mildred Blahovec Matuska (husband Lad); brother, Joseph Blahovec (wife Rose); niece, Jane Matuska Rinehart; nephews, Eddie Cooper and Ron Cooper of Massachusetts.
Ellie’s greatest gift was the love and care she gave to others. Ellie never knew a stranger. In 1954 Ellie became a member of the Alice Chapter of the Eastern Stars. She worked as a head teller at the bank for many years and enjoyed playing pinochle with friends. She was president of the East Suburban Stroke Club where she and Stu were members from 1984. Ellie was a member of Stow Presbyterian Church when she and Stu lived in stow from 2005-2010. She loved music—especially the Lawrence Welk Show. One of the highlights of her life was dancing with Myron Floren on Ellie and Stu’s 50th wedding anniversary.
Ellie happily lived the last 6 years of her life with Arlene in Columbus. Annie (her “little one”), a five-pound toy fox terrier, has been her comforting companion for the past 4 years and has never left her side. In Columbus she joined Gahanna Community Congregational Church where Arlene is a member. Ellie’s sweet smile will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Special thanks to Jason and Ruth, Ellie’s hospice nurses for their tender care.
