Thomas Grogan

Obituary of Thomas J. Grogan

Thomas J. Grogan, 91, of Aurora, OH, formerly of Bethel Park, PA, entered into God’s glory on September 24, 2016. He was born in Pittsburgh on February 4, 1925 and was a Pittsburgh-area resident until moving to Aurora last year. Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas S. and Jessie Grogan, he is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Alice; children, Thomas E. Grogan (Suzanne), Sue Grogan-Johnson (Dallas), and Mark Grogan (Mary Ann); grandson, Brian Grogan (Amy); great-granddaughters, Abigail, Sophia, and Phoebe Grogan; brothers, Robert and David Grogan; and many nieces and nephews. Tom was a dedicated family man, a lifelong Steelers fan, a talented engineer, and a faithful member of Bethel Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, serving there in various volunteer roles, and living out his deeply held faith in Jesus Christ. An alumnus of The University of Pittsburgh, he held B.S. degrees in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, as well as an M.B.A. He put his education to good use during his long career with Westinghouse, where he worked principally in nuclear power plant design. Tom served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of the 42nd Rainbow Division, attaining the rank of Sergeant by the end of his term of service. His no-nonsense manner and gruff exterior once earned him the moniker “Thunder Bucket,” but he also possessed a strong sense of duty and loyalty, and he was quick-witted with a wry sense of humor. The family will welcome friends at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, Ohio on Tuesday from 2:30 to 4 PM. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 with Pastor Mark Lile officiating. Burial Wednesday at Bethel Cemetery in Bethel Park, PA.
