Obituary of Martin A. Phillips

Martin A Phillips Jr. (Bud) passed away on October 22, 2016 at Brookdale Bath assisted living facility. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 25, 1926, he was a US Army veteran of World War II, serving as a corporal with the 3rd Armored Division, and was honorably discharged June 20, 1946. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Case Institute of Technology, was employed as a chemical engineer for Westinghouse and then with Goodyear, leading to several process and product patents. An avid boater and fisherman, he enjoyed including and teaching his whole family his favorite hobby. He became a Coast Guard certified Charter Captain after retiring from Goodyear. Marty was a Stow resident since 1960 and an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he had served as a Eucharistic minister and lector. Preceded in death by his wife Marie C. Vitello, brother Richard Phillips, sister Madonna Raus and daughter Mary Lou Rinella, he is survived by his children Martin Ill (Nancy) Phillips, Kathy Phillips, Sue (Rick) Clark, Therese Leslein, John (Sharon) Phillips; son-in-law Rick Rinella; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters in law Jean Vitello and Maureen Beedlow, and brother in law John Vitello. Friends may call Thursday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at Redmon Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial Friday 10:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3179 Kent Rd., Stow 44224, Fr. Kevin Klonowski celebrant. Burial at Silver Springs Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
