Dear Meffley Family,
My deepest condolences on your loss. I live in Columbus Ohio, and just I learned (from reading the New Washington Herald) the sad news that Mr. Meffley passed away.
Mr. Meffley was one of the greatest teachers I have ever had (including all of the ones I had while pursuing three degrees in Mechanical Engineering at OSU). He was my Chemistry teacher at Buckeye Central in 1976-77 and 1977-78. He was able to bring out the best in many of his students, and he taught me how to study and how to learn. He motivate me to appreciate the importance of academic effort and of doing the best I could do.
He taught us how to use a slide rule - not necessarily because we needed to, but because it was something worth learning. A few years ago while I was visiting my youngest son's high school Chemistry room, I notice a drawer containing old slide rules. His teacher gave me one and it is now on desk in my office. Certainly, I have thought about Mr. Meffley often during the past 40 years, and my slide rule reminder will keep him alive forever in my thoughts and in my heart.
God bless you,
Gary Heydinger

I've had the honor and pleasure of knowing Ron for many years as a fellow educator and friend. Even though we all were about the same age as teachers at Heights, Ron seemed to posses more knowledge and insight than any of us. If we needed mentoring Ron was the go to guy. I have seen Ron with students in the classroom and on the athletic fields and he always showed a high degree of professionalism while exhibiting warmth and compassion in any circumstance. My deepest sympathy to Ron's family. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten. Thanks Ron for making me a better person for knowing you.

I have very fond memories of Mr Meffley. Inspirational teacher and one heck of a coach. Definitely impacted my life while in high school. I just spoke of him recently to my children when talking about sports and coaches who motivate you to succeed. I feel privileged to have been his student and athlete. He pushed us & took us to States which I will never forget. My deepest condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

I met Ron only three times -- once at my dad & step-mom's (Gordon & Jody Dallas of Ashland), & twice when we met with him & Drema for dinner & fellowship. He was a mensch -- kind, soft-spoken, with a gift for understated humor about life & teaching.
I wish all of his family comfort in their loss.

I am so sorry for the loss of such a great man. I owe so much to Mr. Meffley, as he was the greatest Chemistry teacher I ever had...so great that I never had to buy the Chemistry books in college, and science became my love. Mr. Meffley ended up being on the interview team that highered me at Cuyahoga Heights as one of the science teachers that replaced him 13 years ago...a title I still hold and honor to this day. He also coached me in softball and I have so many fond memories of him that I couldn't narrow it down to write just one. He was truly the best of the best. I hope I am half as good of a teacher as he was to me. Thinking of all of you during this difficult time.

As kids growing up with many cousins, Ron was about the nicest of all. We always had fun all of us playing at grandma and grandpa's or someones's big yard. Have many pictures of all of us decked out at Easter. Dale had 4 boys my dad (Jim) had 4 girls..His mom always said she would trade. But Ron was the sweetest of all. Always quiet and smiling. So glad got to visit with you guys at one of the reunions at Bruce's. Am keeping you Drema and all family in prayer daily. May God's comfort hold you tightly in the days ahead.

Drema and family, so very sorry to hear the news of Ron going home. He was a very good friend while we lived in the neighborhood years ago and always had a good laugh over something. It is comforting to know that we will see him later.

Mr. Meffley had a lasting effect on my life. His invaluable lessons were well used post high school and honestly he played a part of who I became today. His memories as a teacher and a coach will live on in the lives of every student he touched throughout his career. I remember my time with him and have spoken of it often post high school.
I truly hope he rests in piece.

Greatly saddened by this News and my deepest sympathies to Mr. Meffley's family & loved ones ♡
Mr. Meffley was a kind-hearted soul whom inspired my love of Physics back in 1978-79. Back at a time when girls weren't suppose to love science, he encouraged my participation in the Case Western University Science Fair where I first learned about sub-atomic Quarks and received an 'Excellent' rating for my project on the aerodynamics of foils as pertaining to sails. I'll never forget how he made me feel worthy even though the judges discounted my research and presentation because I was the only girl in the room. To this day and for the past 35 years of teaching sailing as a USSA instructor and Marine Corp Sailing program Director, I always gave/give credit to my dear physics teacher, Mr. Meffley~
Teachers never truly know how much their influence and character inspire their students to carry on the message of hope in a brighter future~
God Bless,
SuzI Wallace
