Obituary of Kathleen Mary Hess

Kathleen Mary Hess (Mumper) Having just missed an opportunity to emigrate from Great Britain to the United States on the Titanic, her parents James and Ethel Reilly came on the next ship, the Lusitania. Fate being as it is, eventually little Miss Kathleen Mary Reilly (Mumper-Hess) was born on November 24, 1915. She lived a full life, teaching her children the importance of community service and living a life based on ethics and respect for all. On February 22,2017 she passed away peacefully. She was preceded in death by her children: Kathleen Woll, Susan Burns, and James F. Mumper; granddaughters: Karen Hawkins and Mary Lynn Whitmire; siblings: James Reilly, Frank Reilly and Marion Mason; husbands: James S. Mumper and Charles Hess. She is survived by children: Jean Buzanski, Mary Roberts (Judson), John Mumper (Kathleen Kane), and Samuel Mumper (Patricia); 18 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren. Kathleen (Kay) enjoyed square dancing, roller skating, and was an avid bowler into her late 90's. Always an adventurer, she traveled the U.S. and Europe on many occasions. Her final adventure was a trip to France at age 97. She is well known for her years of volunteer work for many causes and organizations. In times past, she was a valued employee for the Akron YMCA and Catholic Charities of Portage County. She did much with her 101 years to improve the lives of others. She was a positive minded person and recent conversations with her regarding the nature of heaven and the appearance of God were interesting and lively. The questions she asked - the answers she now knows. We thank the staff at Stow-Glen Assisted Living for their kind hearted support and care for our Mother these past seven months. You helped Mom make the best of her final home on this earth. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 3rd at 12:00 noon at Holy Family Church in Stow. Burial immediately after Mass will be at All Saints Cemetery in Northfield.
